So You Desire to be Baptized in Water as Jesus Gave us the Example and Commanded us to Baptize His Disciple-Followers? (Mt. 28:19-20.) Renette Vermeulen

HERE IS HOW WE SHOULD WATER BAPTIZE THE DISCIPLES OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST What goes with the decision to be water baptized as Jesus’ disciple-follower as He commanded is to understand that Jesus laid a huge responsibility on us through this commandment, because it is A ONCE-OFF, no-turning-back decision and declaration to God, people, and of course, Satan our enemy, who HATES the true water baptism as it is such a necessary step of obedience to God – with such an immense significance to what our Savior did for us, so we can continue growing in knowledge and grace to glorify Him to the end, (2 Pt. 3:18; Mt. 28:18-20.) ►The FIRST requirement to be “buried in water baptism to rise in a new life in Christ,” (which are symbols of Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection,) is SINCERE, PERSONAL FAITH in the Lord Jesus Christ Himself, (Col. 2:9-15; Rom. 6:1-14.) ►SECONDLY, it is a COMMANDMENT of Jesus Christ to baptize His DISCIPLES or followers; all those who sincerely accepted Him as their God, Lord, and Savior,) and simultaneously SURRENDERED or laid themselves down at His feet to follow and obey Him above all else for the rest of their lives, (Jn. 1:12-13; 3:3-5; Rom. 12:1-2: 1 Pt. 1:3; Rom. 12:1-2; 1 Pt. 1:23.) ►Furthermore, the Lord’s disciples have to understand the truly Scriptural water baptism is a BURIAL of the ‘old man of sin’ or the ‘sin nature’ which died when we fully and personally believed and decidedly accepted Jesus as our God, Lord, Savior, and Redeemer. At that moment, we were spiritually born again as He commanded and explained, (see John 1:12-13; 3:3-5.) During the moments under water during baptism, (the symbolical grave,) the Holy Spirit, God Himself, circumcises or cuts away that dead ‘old man,’ and we rise symbolically from the water in a new spiritual life in Christ: (Rom. 6:1-4; Col. 2:9-15.) ►This miracle gives greater understanding to the enemy’s hatred of the true baptism – and of course, how necessary it is to be baptized as a genuine follower/disciple of Jesus. Not being water baptized after being born again means we are dragging the dead ‘sin man’ or nature around.
To answer the usual questions about being ready to obey Jesus Christ our Lord to be water baptized as He demonstrated and commanded, (Mt. 3:13-17; 28:19-20.) ►Just as our personal rebirth in Christ, water baptism in Him is a one-one-one experience with God. Other people involved cannot ‘stand in’ for you, and/or attribute to your unique commitment and experience with the Lord. So, there are NO church, clergies, or any other formalities involved. It is just a full-blown, personal decision to obey and follow Jesus, and it is, therefore, as ‘natural’ on a physical level as can be. ►Compared to step-by-step, saving, sacramental’ church water baptism, so-called ‘eternally saving church membership,’ and everything attached to it, the truth is that NO ONE can come to the Father in heaven except through His Son, the Truth, Way, Life, and Life, and His complete atonement in our place, (Jn. 4:6-11; 3:16-21.) We must be spiritually born again as described above to enter God’s Spiritual Kingdom, and that happens instantly, (Jn. 18:36.) ►Opposed to false church sacramental ‘saving baptism’ by a clergyman, I cannot find a single verse in the Bible that forbids us to be baptized by simply another sincere disciple. It is written nowhere in the Bible that a ‘pastor’ must baptize disciples. And yes, any true disciple of Christ can be baptized at home or anywhere else where there is ordinary water to be submerged. ►Can I baptize myself? From the context of N.T. Scripture it can be done anywhere and by anyone. Jesus asked John the Baptist to baptise Him as an example to His disciples after the cross and Pentecost, (Mt. 28:19-20.) But it seems at Jesus’ baptism, no other people except John were involved. This appears to be the norm throughout the N.T., as in Philip’s baptism of the Ethiopian it also seems as if there were no other witnesses, (Acts 8:27-38— the vital verse in this passage, verse 37, was omitted from most new Bible translations.) Everyone who understands the above and makes the decision to obey and follow Jesus, may be baptized and can baptize as the Holy Spirit leads. However, it can also be done in view of other people, as Jesus’ water baptism is an open declaration that you are symbolically buried in the death of Christ and as you come up out of the water, you declare you have been risen with Him in a new life.
When I lead people to the baptism, I do the following. (No formalities!) First make certain the person understands and confesses the serious decision to be baptized and the responsibility to follow Jesus without ever turning back, (Heb. 6:4-5.) No special words, just truly honest, Scriptural discussions and declarations. ►As said, water baptism, just as salvation, is directly between the person and God! It is NOT a ‘saving’ ritual in ‘holy’ water! E.g., it can be done in a swimming pool (where both enter the water,) or in the bath. No special clothes or acts required. ►Absolutely NO ‘formula,’ learned rhymes, or confessions are required like in useless church sacraments. It is always good to thank God before starting in our own words, and to give thanks to Him for saving that soul and convincing him/her of the wonderful privilege to have died spiritually to sin to live in a new life in Christ; asking the Lord to protect, lead, and teach him/her in the truth of His Word from this day forward until the end. (The born again person is already fully blessed by Jesus: Gal. 3:10-14. No need for special blessings, etcetera. Only thanksgiving.) ►Once the person is ready to be dunked in the water, you should let him rest his head on your arm, with the other hand on his chin, or any other comfortable position. Let the person feel more secure closing his nose and by holding onto your wrist. · Call his/her name, stating something as follows, “...On your own confession that you believe in Jesus Christ and has completely accepted Him as your God, Lord, Redeemer, Savior, and Blessor, I now baptize you in water as a disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ as He commanded - [submerge the person only once while speaking,] in the Name of the Father, the Son, and Holy Spirit.” Bring the person immediately up out of the water. It is now time to praise and thank our Father in heaven, the Lord Jesus Christ, for the wonderful miracle of adding another disciple to the holy body of Christ! (1 Cor. 12:13.) That’s it. The new disciple must henceforward be taught WHAT JESUS SAID to understand and follow Him: Mt. 28:19-20. I pray that God will make a way for everyone to be water baptised to obey and glorify God above all else.. So many people need Jesus right now; there is no time to waste. All honor, glory, and praise to our Lord Jesus Christ! Hallelujah!
